About Therapy

My areas of special interest are:

  • From pregnancy to postpartum, I’ve got your back. This period is a monumental shift in identity and can bring up many new and old feelings to work through. Some areas that we can tackle together include:

    • antenatal/postnatal anxiety and depression

    • pregnancy loss

    • worries about birth

    • processing your birth

    • adjusting to parenthood and changes in identity (*matrescence*)

    • enhancing bonding and attachment with your child

    • anger/”mum rage”

    • body image and feeling pressure to ‘bounce back’ (see more in the next section!)

    • relationship changes and sharing the parenting load

    • setting boundaries with others to prioritise your and your child’s needs

    • adjusting to returning to paid work

  • Living in a society where diet culture is pervasive, many of us experience a difficult relationship with food and our bodies, even if we are not experiencing a clinical eating disorder.

I practice from a weight neutral, Health at Every Size lens, meaning my goal is to support you to improve your relationship with yourself without weight loss being an aim. If you are ready to move away from dieting and instead focus on rebuilding your relationship with your body minus the strict rules and inner critic, I’m your gal.

Some challenges I can support you with:

    • improving body image and your relationship with yourself as a whole

    • reducing (and ideally eliminating) disordered eating behaviours (e.g. bingeing, restricting, compulsive exercise)

    • exploring new coping strategies to replace the comfort of ‘rules’ you may have regarding food and exercise

    • support in advocating for yourself against diet culture and weight stigma, whether that be to family and friends, or medical professionals

    • Please note that I am not able to support anyone experiencing an eating disorder who is medically unstable (please discuss with your GP)

  • I started out my psychology career working with chronic pain alongside physiotherapists, and developed a particular interest in pelvic pain. Also being a registered health psychologist, I have broad training in physical health concerns and how these interact with our mental health, particularly as women.

Challenges that I can help you address include:

    • pelvic pain and chronic pain

    • advocating for yourself in medical spaces

    • oncology and coping with a cancer diagnosis and treatment

    • fertility and hormonal issues such as PCOS, endometriosis and adenomyosis

  • Across the different settings and subdisciplines of psychology I have worked in, trauma is a pervasive issue for many. Trauma can be part of the puzzle of any of the above mentioned areas. My approach is to go very gently and at a pace that works for you in unpacking and processing trauma, ensuring you feel safe and supported at every step. Trauma therapy can be a mix of cognitive and experiential work to assist in processing traumatic memories and feelings.

Please note that I only work with adults (18+). I am committed to providing inclusive, culturally sensitive care that honours and supports individuals of all bodies, neurotypes, cultures, genders, sexualities, religions, and abilities. I aim to respect each person’s unique identity and lived experience.

I am dedicated to supporting women, however anyone who is seeking support in the above areas and wanting to break free of patriarchy is welcome at She Speaks.
