She speaks. She listens. She sees. She thinks. She feels.
She Speaks Psychology was born out of a desire to empower women to speak up for themselves, whether that be in healthcare settings, relationships, workplaces, or society in general. The challenges that face women today are widespread; to name a few:
fighting for our own bodily autonomy re: reproductive rights, medical misogyny
the gender pay gap and unpaid labour gap
a lack of funded postpartum care and childcare. Women are sold the dream of motherhood only to find they are expected to do it privately with little to no help, support, or value of their unpaid labour (where’s that village they talk about??)
our basic safety, with two women on average murdered every week in Australia, overwhelmingly by men
societal pressures of diet culture and unrealistic beauty standards re: women’s bodies, which are treated as trends
Women today face a unique set of challenges that are deeply rooted in systemic inequality and societal expectations, i.e. the patriarchy. Women’s lives are shaped by complex, often oppressive systems that impact our bodies, our choices, and our mental health.
